Engineering Innovation Skill Centre (EISC-EEC) established by the Department of Civil Engineering, Easwari Engineering College in association with Sanvir Associates at their Chennai Ramapuram campus has been cynosure of eyes to students, faculties, professors, visiting dignitaries and industry stakeholders.

This first-of-its-kind initiative in the educational Institution is connecting all people from infrastructure industry under one roof, and benefit each one to know the best of the systems, methods and practices available in construction sector.

Several key players from the building, MEP, water supply and treatment, building materials, interior works, Environmental/ Public Health, HVAC are displaying their products and service at this skill centre.EISC-EEC is providing platform and helping the engineering students, ITI technicians and skilled and unskilled workforce including women to know the latest trends in engineering design, procurement and construction.   Experts from the manufacturing industry are giving hands on training on handling the products and equipment while undertaking value engineering skill courses at this centre.

This one-stop-centre has been attracting the young students from various colleges in the city as it provides, latest product, new age technology in civil construction, latest tools and tackles including the innovative construction methods and practices.   It also enables the establised companies to spot young talents and provide internship opportunities to students.   More and more start-ups are evincing interest to display their products and services at EISC.

Dr.Fixit Institute in Department of Civil Engineering, Easwari Engineering College in Chennai Ramapuram campus has been cynosure of eyes to students, faculties, professors, visiting dignitaries and industry persons. Dr. Fixit Institute of Structural Protection and Rehabilitation (DFI – SPR), a not-for-profit knowledge center, was conceived in 2001 under the promotional umbrella of Pidilite Industries Limited and thereafter registered in June 2006 as a stand-alone company under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956. The primary mission of DFI- SPR is “To act as a platform of national and international networking for sharing of knowledge and practices in the field of waterproofing, repair, restoration and renewal engineering in the context of life cycle assessment of the built environment for the adoption of best practices by the country’s construction industry”. The institute’s activities are overseen by a Governing Council comprising eminent individuals from the fields of Construction Engineering, Research, and Management. DFI-SPR started offering courses from 2002 and conducted more than 1000 training programmes at various centres, for over 15,000 participants. Apart from the training, the institute also publishes a technical guidebook under the series “Healthy Construction Manual”.

Easwari Engineering College, Department of Civil Engineering in Association with Dr.FIXIT DFI- SPR has successfully Conducted, 2 Days Awareness workshop on “REINFORCED CONCRETE REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE“  on 22nd and 23rd January 2024 from 09.30 a.m to 4.00 p.m .  The program was addressed by Dr.S.Lavanya Prabha, Professor &Head , Department of Civil Engineering, the Day 1 program was lectured by Mr.Tirtha Pratim Banerjee, Head- Training and customer Services, Dr Fixit Institute DFI TRAINING CENTRE, Hands on Session by Mrs.Seema samsheete, Manager Training, Dr.Fixit, Day 2 training was given by Mr.Purushothama Babu, Technical – Executive, Dr.Fixit. Then the session explained the types of distress and causes of distress.Themistakes that couldhappenduringtheapplicationofwaterproofwereexplained.Goodconstructionpractice,buildingenvelope,Diagnosis,condition assessment, and the right strategy and methodology for attending to a problem arebeenlectured.Substructurewaterproofing, the basement area’s risk factors, and its protection were explainedaccording to BS8102:2009 and IS 16471:2017. Then the audience was introduced to someDr. Fixit products like Dr. Fixit Super Latex which is utilized for fixes of spalled cement, forexample, – floors, columns, beams, and slabs & waterproofing of bathrooms & terraces. Itbonds emphatically to old and new concrete and mortar. Dr. Fixit Pidifin 2k is applied towaterproof and protect concrete and similar structures. Specially formulated for swimmingpools, retaining walls, pile heads, water tanks, submerged tunnels, sumps, and bridge decks.Dr. Fixit Damp guard is utilized as an inside covering for the waterproofing medicines of watertanksandbuilding dividerssinceitmaybeappliedover moistsurfacesandithasmagnificentwateropposition,bond,hardnessanddurabilityandsetsquickerlikedissolvablebasedepoxyplansandtheCrystallinewaterproofing.Hands-on the sessionwasinitiatedithadanexperienceoffixingwaterproofingsheetsmadeofSBSandHDPEmembrane.Later,ontheseconddayofthesession,waterproofingin the toiletusingFAST FLEXwasintroduced.TheprocessofGrouting using PUB foam injection was explained. Department of Civil Engineering organized “Workshop” for three days from 23^rd February 2022 to 25^th February 2022. The speaker for the workshop was Mr. Santhosh Balaji (Technical Executive of Pidilite Industry). At first, the lecture started with addressing the safety factors that should be followed while working. Then it was explained what Waterproofing is and the audience were introduced to some Dr. Fixit products like Dr. Fixit Super Latex which is utilized for fixes of spalled cement, for example, – floors, columns, beams, and slabs & waterproofing of bathrooms & terraces. It bonds emphatically to old and new concrete and mortar. Dr. Fixit Pidifix 2k is applied to waterproof and protect concrete and similar structures. Specially formulated for swimming pools, retaining walls, pile heads, water tanks, submerged tunnels, sumps and bridge decks. Dr. Fixit Dampguard is utilized as inside covering for the waterproofing medicines of water tanks and building dividers since it may be applied over moist surfaces and it has magnificent water opposition, bond, hardness and durability and sets quicker like dissolvable based epoxy plans and Dr. Fixit Raincoat  is utilized as a waterproofing and defensive covering for outside dividers of the buildings because it forms higher film thickness, has excellent flexibility, breathing properties, water resistance, crack-bridging ability, weathering durability and an excellent resistance to the growth of microorganisms. Later, on the second day of the session, skill lab in the college was visited and information on various products displayed was collected. On the final day of workshop, a demo session on use of some products was shown in the Structural Laboratory and was taught on how to do it practically.

IN STRUCTURAL PROTECTION & REHABILITATION

This is exclusive to Easwari Engineering College. To promote skills Development, internships, projects, placement amongst students. This was attended by Dr.Fixit members, CREDAI members,  companies owners, EEC staff members and Students. The program started with welcome address by HOD of civil department Dr.S.Lavanya Prabha and followed by Mr.Tirtha Pratim Banerjee about collaborative initiatives and schedule of events for upcoming programs, elective subjects and other initiatives. Discussions made by industrial persons Dr.Arul  Thirunavukarasu, Head-Skill Development ,CREDAI about the basic concreting problems and lack of awareness in construction. Mr. Muralidharan Chairman ICI Chennai chapter discussed about lack of knowledge in curing and other construction aspects,  followed by Dr.Virapan professor civil department addressed the crack formation and improper construction practice. The solution and remedial process was discussed by Mr. Tirtha Partim Banerjee. After discussions grand opening of DFI TRAINING CENTRE “CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE “ in structural protection and rehabilitation was done by chief of directors and chief patrons from Dr.Fixit Institute.

Hands-on the session was initiated it had an experience of fixing waterproofing sheets made of SBS and HDPE membrane. Later, on the second day of the session, waterproofing in the toilet using FAST FLEX was introduced. The process of Grouting using PUB foam injection was explained. The hands-on session had the explanation of applying the product Fastflex and bracing the water tanks using a hydrophilic water stopper.

Easwari Engineering College, Department of Civil Engineering in Association with Dr.FIXIT DFI- SPR has successfully Conducted One Day Workshop on ” ROOF AND PODIUM WATERPROOFING- QUALITY IN CONSTRUCT AND EXECUTION on 12th April 2024 from 09.30 a.m to 4.30 PM. The workshop is conducted by Mr.Tirtha Pratim Banerjee, Head- Training and customer Services, Dr Fixit Institute DFI TRAINING CENTRE. The Technical Session by Mrs.Seema samsheete, Manager Training, Mr.Purushothama Babu, Technical – Executive, Dr.Fixit.  Mr.Jinachandra Babu, CSKM Dr.FIXIT, introduced the  Products and  also given application training  to 26 participants from various construction industries  in the workshop. The first session explained the analysis of water penetration issue, Roof and Podium waterproofing, critical detailing of structures. Session 2  explained the water proofing materials and in hands on session  explained the application of  FAST FLEX and PIDIFIN 2K. The program ended with VOTE of Thanks by HOD.
