On the Occassion of World Mental Health Day 2023, the student society of Biomedical Engineering of Easwari Engineering College had organized the Seminar on the topic Importance of Mental health and mental hygiene for emerging adults on 10.10.2023 between 11.00 am to 12.30 pm for Second Year Students
Mrs.S.Muthulakshmi , M.Sc, (Ph.D)., Counselling Psychologist, New Life Med Hospital, Chennai was the Resource person. Dr.G.Babu , HOD/BME, was the convenor for the event. The coordinators are Mrs.K.Shruthi , AP/BME & Mrs.R.K.Ahalya , AP/BME.
The Resource person discussed about the Psychological issues faced by the emerging adults. Madam also gave insights on how to face and overcome the psychological issues.
The seminar stressed that emerging adults are vulnerable to various stressors including academic pressure, career choices, and social expectations. Neglecting their mental health can lead to long-term consequences, such as anxiety, depression, and reduced life satisfaction.
Mrs Muthulakshmi emphasised the significance of self-awareness, stress management, and resilience-building as tools for maintaining good mental hygiene.
Moreover, the seminar highlighted the need for accessible mental health resources and open conversations. Emerging adults are more likely to seek help when it is stigma-free and readily available.
Students also had an interactive question and answer session which was extremely useful for the students n gave them a better understanding.
In conclusion, the seminar highlighted the importance of mental health and mental hygiene for emerging adults. Taking care of one’s mental well-being is just as important as taking care of physical health. By practicing good mental hygiene and seeking support when needed, emerging adults can better navigate the challenges that come their way.
