WOMEN EMPOWERMENT IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

OVERVIEW:

Women’s day programme was organized by ICI Student Chapter, Department of Civil Engineering, Easwari Engineering college for girl students of B.E civil engineering &M.E Structural engineering of Easwari Engineering College.

INTRODUCTION:

Celebration for Women’s day was organized by Department of Civil Engineering (Easwari Engineering College), 8th March 2023. The dignitaries are the alumni of Easwari Engineering College from various sectors where some of the alumni joined through online mode. The event started with felicitating the gathering by Dr.S. Lavanya Prabha (Head of Department, Easwari Engineering College). The session started with a thoughtful speech by Mrs. M. Kavi Priya (Asst. Executive Engineer, Tamil Nadu water supply and drainage board, Chennai) from 2007-2011 Batch. The importance of personal life and work life balance was very well explained with her life experience. Next, through online mode. Ms. Gowthami from 2008-2012 batch, (Planning engineer, LWM Project Management Services LLC, Dubai, UAE) shared her journey from college to corporate world. Mrs.A.Ashwini (Specification Engineer, WUERTH,India) from 2008-2012 batch, conveyed the importance of networking and contacts. Also  shared  the value of  LinkedIn profile and uses of  it. Dr. N. Divyah (Asst. Professor, Dept of Civil Engineering, PSG Institute of Technology and Applied Research) from 2013-2015 batch of structural engineering connected with us through online and shared about the struggles faced and her life path experience. Mrs. Shreenidhi from 2008-2012 batch, who is an environmental engineer currently focusing on Sustainable Development. The seriousness and value of college life and also the thoughts to be carried forward for next stage of life was comprised in her speech. Mrs. Vishnu Priya (Developer in GIS wing under Engineering and industrial services, TCS) from 2011-2015 batch, explained about the core field involved in IT sector and briefed about GIS along with her experiences. Also, she shared her passion towards baking and the balance of work life and passion. Mrs. Krithika (ZOHO) from 2012-2016 batch, connected through online, where she explained about the path from a student to an employee and also the earthquake effects in structures. Mrs. Chengani Ayyapan (Women Entrepreneur) from 2007-2011 batch, gave a detailed experience and stages through to become an Entrepreneur. In addition, she also explained about the importance of ecofriendly products to be utilized. Mrs. K. Nivetha (Asst. Engineering Manager, L&T Chennai) from 2011-2015 batch, she simplified the speech about networking and growth in corporate field. Mrs. Padma Priya (Researcher Scholar, University of Cambridge) from 2013-2017 batch, briefed about the scope in Research field and opportunities in abroad. Then, Mrs. S. Mahalakshmi (Manager-Projects, Ultracon structural systems) from 2013-2017 batch, shared her efforts taken in this core field. After that, Mrs. S. Mariammal (Proprietor, RMD Concrete Solutions, Chennai) from 2016-2018 Structural engineering batch, shared the struggles faced during her course period and experience in testing of structures. Finally, Ms. Yuvashree (Graduate Engineer Trainee, L&T, Chennai) from 2018-2022 batch, simplified her speech about the corporate world issues.

CONCLUSION:

All the talks were very useful for the girl’s students and it will help them to develop the skills and to precede the career in the right path.
