Report on the Mathematical Modeling Contest held on 24/05/2024 under the auspices of Mathematics Colloquium.
The Mathematical Modeling Contest 2024 was conducted on 24/05/2024 the Department of Mathematics, EEC under the auspices of Mathematics Colloquium.
As every engineering application has its base in Mathematics, it was felt necessary to involve the students in real-life projects with underlying Mathematical notions. Based on this motivating factor, the Mathematical Colloquium announced the contest in April 2024. There was an excellent response from the students and nearly 32 teams participated in the competition with many of their ideas. After the scrutiny of proposed projects, 24 teams were shortlisted and they exhibited their models on 24/05/2024.
The exhibits should by the I year students were splendid and they have taken considerable efforts to present their models. Professors Dr. R. Srinivasan, Associate Professor, SRM Ramapuram Campus and Dr. N. Sujatha, Associate Professor, SRM Ramapuram Campus evaluated the projects and three prizes were announced for the three teams for their best projects.
The crucial part played by the Mathematical Department staff, including the Convenor Dr. S. R. Ananthalakshmi [HoD/Maths], Co-Convenors Dr. S. Deepa [AP/Maths] and Mr. L. Vasu [AP/Maths], and Faculty in Charge Mr. S. Kuppuraj [AP/Maths], Dr. M. Ellayarani [AP/Maths], Dr. P. Tamilazarasi [AP/Maths], Dr. S. Ganasekaran [AP/Maths], Dr. A. Anitta [AP/Maths] ensured the event’s success. Their dedication and effort in organizing and managing each and every aspect of the contest were commendable. They meticulously planned and coordinated the event, reviewed and shortlisted projects, and provided guidance to student teams. They managed the setup of exhibition spaces, facilitated the judging process, and ensured all logistics were in place. Post-event, they gathered feedback to improve future contests. Their dedication and efficient management ensured the event’s success.
The student body played a significant role in the success of this event. The organizing committee consisted of five members: President Mr. M. Rishab, Vice President Ms. S. Dhana Anjana, Secretary Mr. H. Trineshwar, and Volunteers Mr. Joel, Ms. Sandhya Sri, Ms. Hapika Maini. Their
contributions included working on the certificates, assigning team numbers to the teams, and ensuring the smooth flow of the event.
The prize winners received their prizes from the Principal: First Prize given to Chilakapati Siva Keshav, Nandha Kumaran G, Kevin Samuel of I-CSC(CS) for their project “Quantum Key Distribution”, Second Prize given to Sivakumar B, Sarvesh R, Unayal N of I-CSC C for their model on “Stellar Rhythms unveiling Exoplanet with FFT & 3D-printed transit” Third Prize: Sujith J, Samyuktha K, Sandhya D, Srinisha B of I-IT C for their model on “Maritime Sensor Controlled Elevation Bridge”.
The Principal of EEC, who had spent considerable time with the Contestants, was happy to see students’ involvement in preparing and presenting the model. This contest, being an annual event commencing from this year, will definitely motivate more students to involve themselves and exhibit more challenging projects/models in subsequent years. We thank our Chairman sir, Co- chairman Sir, Directors, Principal, Vice-Principal and administration of EEC for their encouragement towards the conduct of Mathematical Modeling contest.
