IET Sponsored National Conference on Embedded Automation and IoT (NCEAI-2017) was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication, Easwari Engineering College, Chennai On 26th April 2017.

The inaugural function was conducted in TRP Auditorium at 9.30am in presence of the chief guest Mr. V. B. Ganapathy, Scientist E, MEITY, Government of India, Principal and the coordinators of the event. The event started with a warm welcome address by Dr.K.Rahimunnisa, HoD / ECE.

The proceedings of the national conference were released by the Chief Guest, Mr. V. B. Ganapathy. He is the Technical Director and Scientist, Department of IT, Government of India. He is working as scientist from NIC and has 31 years of experience. He has a profound experience in IT/ITES in e-Governance and e-Commerce projects.  His greatest passion is towards teaching which was perceived through his speech. He gave a speech on E-governance regarding online publishing results, Smart city with IOT, Digital India Vision, government Initiatives for every citizen utility. The current research projects on IOT are Energy usage and weather thermostat application and Digital speed limit sign. He briefed on Smart city project in India where 100 cites have been selected for this project, wherein IOT plays an important role. The city access includes Library, transportation systems, power plants, hospitals, water supply networks etc. He also insisted the need of the government for young and fresh minds in Innovative Engineering.

The Honorable Principal insisted on the importance of extracting the Engineering techniques from Historical Regional language, Tamil. He also asserted to implement the current technologies like IOT and Embedded Systems, rather sticking on to the gadgets. Dr.Rahimunnisa, Head of the department thanked IET for sponsoring the NCEAI 2K17 and encouraged the participants for their active presentation.  A lecture session was conducted on IOT and its applications. This was the remarkable session by the chief guest Mr. V.B. Ganapathy. He gave valuable inputs on National Knowledge Network, Mission mode projects, e-Service for transport, emerging technologies (cloud computing), e-Government Standards and open source stacks. There were about 20 selected papers which were being judged by a panel of four members. Finally the best paper award was given to Chandrika.N, Priyanka, S.Akshaya Anand from Panimalar Institute of Technology, Chennai, for their work on “A smart helmet for air quality and hazardous event detection in mining industry”. Vote of thanks was given by Mr.Ponraj.A, Assistant Professor and the Coordinator for NCEAI, with the quote that “Infrastructure to communication is done by IOT”.
