The Department of Automobile Engineering organised the fifth session of its ENJOYNEERING guest-lecture series, themed “Enjoy Engineering Education with Industry Insights,” at Civil Gallery Hall I. Conducted in offline mode as part of the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) calendar activities, the session aimed to help students connect core engineering concepts with real-world industry practice and emerging AI-driven design tools.
The session was delivered by Mr. Karthic Sethuraman, Expert Member of the SAE Southern Section and a senior industry professional with more than 26 years of experience across the industrial, defence, automotive and off-highway domains. Through live demonstrations — including the use of generative-AI prompts for classic machine-design problems such as the design of shafts — he showed students how modern tools can make engineering education more engaging and industry-relevant. He emphasised that strong fundamentals in design and analysis remain essential even as tools evolve.
The session was highly interactive, with students putting questions to the resource person on applying AI tools to engineering problems, career pathways in the automotive and digital-engineering space, and the skills needed to stay relevant. The speaker responded with practical, experience-based guidance drawn from his long industry career. A total of 29 students participated in the programme.
